Entering the final weekend of the season, the Plattsburgh State volleyball team lost a pair of non-conference matches Friday to open the Skidmore Invitational at the Williamson Sports Center. The Cardinals (6-27) gave the host Thoroughbreds (22-4) fits in a 25-23, 25-15, 22-25, 25-15 defeat, then fell to fellow State University of New York Athletic Conference member Cortland in straight sets, 25-11, 25-15, 25-16.

Against Skidmore, Kayla Hoopes came off the bench to lead the Plattsburgh offense with 12 kills, followed by Theresa Lilly with 11 and Kristin Saheim had 11. Kayla Nason contributed 43 assists.

Defensively, freshman Cat Darling posted a Cardinal season-best of nine blocks and Abby Mell had one to hit the 100-milestone for her career. Lilly added 18 digs and Andrea Kalter had 15.

Plattsburgh was virtually even with Skidmore in every statistical category except for hitting--the Cardinals had nine less kills and 14 more attack errors. The Thoroughbreds were more efficient, .273 to .108.

Saheim had six kills against the Red Dragons, who improve to 29-7 on the season. Hilary Boyea had 20 assists. Kalter and Lilly contributed six and three digs, respectively, with Lilly adding two blocks.
