PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--Chris Taylor scored the game's only goal in the second half and goalkeeper Andy Heighington etched his name in the school's record book, propelling the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference victory Wednesday against Clarkson. The Cardinals, who won the 11th consecutive meeting between the two North Country rivals, improve to 13-4-1 on the season, while the Golden Knights fall below the .500-mark at 6-7-2.
Taylor--one of seven seniors recognized before the game--notched his fourth goal on a feed from Matt Hamilton in the 54th minute. Hamilton was on the right wing and passed to Taylor, who chipped a shot over the keeper's head from the right-top corner of the penalty area.
Heighington made three saves to earn shutouts No. 11 for the season and No. 20 for his career. He tied recent Cardinal Sports Hall of Fame inductee Chris Balducci for third place on the single-season list and equaled John Schraner (1996, '99-01) for fourth on the school's all-time chart.
Despite the low-scoring affair, the hosts dominated in shots (15 to 5) and corner kicks (9-4).
Saverino Spagnolo had three saves for the Golden Knights, who nearly opened the scoring early in the second half. In the 49th minute, Mark Secko's blast from the left deflected off a Cardinal defender toward the goal but Heighington made a diving stop to his right.
