POTSDAM, N.Y.--The SUNY Plattsburgh volleyball team concluded the State University of New York Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Saturday at Potsdam, and the Cardinals didn't roll over to New Paltz and Oneonta. The Cardinals (6-24 overall, 1-7 SUNYAC) fell to the Hawks in three tough sets, 30-28, 25-11, 25-20, and then took the Red Dragons to task before losing in four, 24-26, 25-19, 25-16, 25-17.

Theresa Lilly and Abby Mell paced the offense with five kills apiece against New Paltz. Lilly also had six digs. Kayla Nason posted 19 assists and six digs, and Andrea Kalter added 11 digs.

"We were ahead 24-23 in the opening set, but couldn't finish it," said Plattsburgh coach Dena O'Connell. "If we could have won that set, then it would have been a different match. The girls played a competitive, hard match."

Versus the Red Dragons, Hilary Boyea and Nason had 15 and 14 assists, respectively. Lilly spiked a team-best 12 kills, followed by Kayla Hoopes with seven, Kristin Saheim had seven, and Cat Darling produced five. Kalter and Lilly contributed 18 and 12 digs, respectively. Darling added three blocks and Hoopes had two service aces.

"We made strides in SUNYAC this season. We saw improvement and that's a good stepping stone for the future," O'Connell said.
