PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--Jarred Antonucci came off the bench to stake the SUNY Plattsburgh men's soccer team to a 1-0 lead in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Cardinals gave up a late goal in regulation and eventually lost in double overtime to visiting Saint Lawrence, 2-1, in non-conference action at the Field House Complex on Wednesday.
The Saints extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games (9-0-2) to improve to 11-2-2. The Cardinals had the better of the North Country rivalry of late with a five-match unbeaten streak in the series, but they drop to 11-4-1 on the season.
Sean Scott scored the game-winning goal 5 minutes and 4 seconds left in the second overtime, taking a crossing pass from Brendan Gorman and burying his fifth goal from close range.
After the teams played a scoreless first half, Antonucci put the Cardinals ahead in the 73rd minute. Matt Martin was credited with the assist.
Plattsburgh had a golden opportunity to add an insurance goal in the 80th minute. After a Chris Taylor corner kick, Matt Hamilton blasted a shot off a SLU defender standing on the goal line and then John LoGuirato's rebound attempt from 15-yards was blocked.
The Saints forced overtime in the 87th minute when Gorman scored his team-leading seventh goal to knot the contest at 1-1.
Saint Lawrence also had advantages in shots (19-13) and corner kicks (9-6).
