PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--Abby Mell spiked seven kills and hit .778 without making an attack error and the rest of the Plattsburgh State volleyball team set a couple of season highs en route to a quick 25-6, 25-12, 25-12 non-conference victory against Paul Smith's College on Saturday morning at Memorial Hall. Then a few hours later, the Cardinals dispatched Johnson State in straight sets, 25-8, 25-8, 25-17.

Plattsburgh raises its record to 5-21 after marking a close to the home schedule this season. The Bobcats now stand at 1-6 while the Badgers are 2-15.

In the first match today, Plattsburgh had 21 service aces, including six by Andrea Kalter, to eclipse the previous best of 12 against Rochester Tech on Oct. 9. The Cardinals also hit .438 on 28 kills in 48 attempts with just seven errors to shatter the previous season high of .220, set versus SUNYIT on Sept. 11. (The Cardinals would later surpass 21 with Johnson State.)

Ciera Gano led the visiting Bobcats with five kills off the bench. Harley Wilson contributed a match-high five digs and she had two kills.

Plattsburgh used a 12-point run to seize control of the opening set. With the score 6-3, Kalter recorded a kill from the back row to ignite the rally which was punctuated by five aces by Kalter herself and a pair of Kayla Hoopes kills.

The Cardinals also led throughout the second and third sets, taking advantage of Bobcats errors offensively, from behind the service line and in their serve-receive game.

In the first-ever meeting with the Badgers, Plattsburgh registered 28 aces to establish the season high again in a matter of hours. Chyresse Wells had six of them to go along with seven digs.

Kristin Saheim paced the offense with a match-high 13 kills and .524 hitting percentage. The graduate student also had four aces in her final home appearance in a red and white uniform.

Kayla Nason and Hilary Boyea directed the attack (Cardinals hit .379 as a team) with 19 and 11 assists, respectively.

Molly Glover provided a highlight for the Badgers with seven digs and two kills.
