PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--Visiting Saint Michael's College hit .284 en route to a 25-9, 25-11, 25-21 victory Wednesday over Plattsburgh State in non-conference volleyball action at Memorial Hall. The NCAA Division II Purple Knights out of the Northeast-10 Conference even their record at 8-8, while the Cardinals fall to 3-21.

Chelsey Covitz and Samantha Clairemont had eight kills apiece to pace the SMC offense, and setter Jessica McLeod directed the efficient attack with 32 assists. Courtney Dunne came off the bench to top all players with 12 digs.

Freshman Cat Darling had six kills and hit .273 to lead the Cardinals, who hit only minus-.057 as a team. Theresa Lilly added three kills, three digs and three blocks and Kayla Hoopes also had three kills.

The Purple Knights cruised through the first two sets, hitting .500 in each frame. But they were tested in the third by a Cardinals team that wouldn't roll over. Trailing 6-4, Darling had back-to-back kills to tie the frame at 6-all and a service ace by Hoopes put Plattsburgh in the lead for the first time.
