Cardinal Spikers Split to Open Oneonta Volleyball Invitational

Theresa Lilly leads offense with 17 kills

Theresa Lilly spiked a team-high 17 kills in two opening matches at the Oneonta Invitational.

ONEONTA, N.Y.--The Plattsburgh State volleyball team split a pair of matches to begin the Oneonta State Invitational on Friday evening, defeating Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 before falling to Saint John Fisher 25-21, 25-18, 25-15. The Cardinals now stand at 3-15 overall.

Against MCLA, Theresa Lilly paced the offense with eight kills, followed by Abby Mell with six and Kristin Saheim had four. Setter Kayla Nason recorded 23 assists. Defensively, Mell had two blocks and Lilly got to four digs.

In a battle of Cardinals, Lilly again led the way with nine kills versus SJFC. Kayla Hoopes contributed four kills. Nason served up 18 assists. Chyresse Wells had a team-best six digs and one solo block, and Lilly added two digs.

"Our players didn't give up and stayed positive on the court," Plattsburgh coach Dena O'Connell said. "We continued to make mistakes, but we were able to sustain some long rallies tonight."
