Gove Scores Twice as Plattsburgh Forges Tie at Utica

Game-Tying Goal Came in Last Minute of Regulation

UTICA, N.Y. - Freshman Teal Gove scored her second goal of the game with 47 seconds left in regulation to lift second-ranked Plattsburgh State to a 3-3 tie at Utica in Eastern College Athletic Conference West Division women's hockey action on Saturday. Neither team could find the back of the net in the 5-minute overtime. The Cardinals (9-1-1 overall, 8-0-1 ECAC-West) completed their spring semester-opening conference series on a good note by getting three points on the road out of a possible four--this, following a 6-1 win last night. BOXSCORE

The game's first three goals came via the power play during the first period. The visiting Cardinals took a 1-0 lead by Laurie Bowler after 5 minutes and 21 seconds had elapsed before Lynny Gonzales tied it at the 15:55 mark. But Gove's first goal on the day put Plattsburgh back in front, 2-1, with 16 seconds remaining.

Plattsburgh peppered the Pioneer goal all game long, 52-22.  The count was 17-5 in the first and 18-0 in the third, as well as 3-1 in the overtime.

However, Utica (7-5-2, 4-3-2) outshot the Cardinals by a slim 16-14 margin in the second period when the Pioneers went ahead 3-2 on goals from Tiffany Bichrest and Darcy Hier.

Mandy Mackrell recorded 19 saves for Plattsburgh while  Jill Doherty stopped 49 shots.
