Women's Hockey Dominates Utica in ECAC West Face-Off

Cardinals Win 6-1

UTICA, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team, ranked No. 2 nationally, easily topped Eastern College Athletic Conference West Division foe Utica, winning the game 6-1 on the Pioneers home ice.

The Cardinals, now on a two-game win-streak, improve to 9-1-0 for the season, 8-0 in the ECAC West, while Utica drops to 7-5-1 overall, 4-3-1 in conference play.

Steph Moon scored the first goal of the night for the Cardinals just over three minutes into play. She was assisted by Kara Buehler and Erika Shaubel. Teal Gove would put the Cardinals ahead, 2-0, 11 minutes later when she scored after receiving the puck from Jordan Caldwell.

Erica Pomponio, Megan DiJulio and Stephanie Moberg would all score for Plattsburgh in the second period. Pomponio's goal, arriving at 1:34 into the period, was her first career goal and was assisted by Britt McKegg. Brittany Meade assisted on DiJulio's goal, while Laurie Bowler and Caldwell racked up an assist each on Moberg's.

Mackenzie Lee scored Plattsburgh's final goal of the game at the beginning of the third period. She was assisted on the play by Kristen Bond.

Utica's lone goal was made by Andrea Maxon with a little over two minutes left to go. Samantha Glockling provided Maxon with the puck.

In goal, Mandy Mackrell played all 60 minutes and made a total of 17 saves for Plattsburgh. Jill Doherty and Laurel Simer split time for the Pioneers, with Doherty making 14 saves and allowing five goals in the first 27 minutes and Simer recording 13 saves with one goal allowed in the last 33 minutes of play.

Plattsburgh stays overnight to take on Utica once more tomorrow at 3 p.m.
