Cadets Clip Cardinals in Top 5 Showdown

Plattsburgh Loses for First Time Since November

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Kyle Thomas recorded a hat-trick as No. 3 Norwich pulled off a mild upset of second-ranked Plattsburgh State, 4-1, in non-conference men's hockey action Tuesday at Kreitzberg Arena. The Cadets remain unbeaten at 9-0-2 to conclude a nine-game homestand before a brief road trip through the state of Maine. The 9-2-2 Cardinals see their eight-game unbeaten streak end and suffer their first loss since Nov. 7.  BOXSCORE

After the teams played a scoreless first period, Plattsburgh took a 1-0 edge in the second period on Dan Sliasis' seventh goal of the season via the power play on a feed by Chris Wieland at the 7:58 mark.

That lead was short-lived, however, as Norwich scored a power play goal of its own 28 seconds later. Thomas scored his first goal to make it 1-1 and then he had another one 2:32 after the tying marker. Tory Allen gave the Cadets at 3-1 cushion at 13:44 when Plattsburgh coach Bob Emery called for a timeout to slow down the hosts..

Thomas' third goal of the night late in the third period rounded out the scoring.

Plattsburgh goaltender Ryan Williams (5-1-1) was pinned with his first loss of his collegiate career in seven decisions, making 24 saves. He made a sprawling glove-save on Chad Anderson at the goal-crease to keep the Cadets off the scoreboard in the opening stanza.

Ryan Klingensmith made 15 stops in the Norwich net to improve to 8-0-1.
