Cardinals Fall to Brockport in Double OT

Daniyan Has Career Night

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Plattsburgh State men's basketball junior forward Errol Daniyan recorded career-highs of 27 points and 18 rebounds against host and State University of New York Athletic Conference foe Brockport, but it was not enough to pull out a win for the Cardinals. Brockport took the contest 100-96, pulling ahead for the final time 29 seconds into the second overtime.

Plattsburgh drops to 8-6 for the season, 3-4 in the SUNYAC, while Brockport rises to 10-4 overall, 6-1 in conference play.

After ending the first half with the Eagles leading 32-29, the two teams traded the lead throughout the second half. Regulation time ended with a tie, 75-75, after Brockport's Josh Zenkel sank a three-pointer at the buzzer.

The first overtime saw Plattsburgh take a seven-point lead with 2:06 left on the clock, but the Eagles widdled away at the Cardinals lead and tied the game up at 89 just before time ran out. Brockport's Andy Foote stole the ball with 12 seconds left and it found its way into the hands of Brandon Williams. Williams sank the game-tying layup with nine seconds to go.

In the second overtime, the Eagles led by as much as six points with 46 second to go. The Cardinals rallied but, after a made free-throw and a three-pointer by Danny Tangney, they could only managed to cut Brockport's lead to two. Jermaine Johnson sank two free-throws with nine seconds left in the game after being followed by Plattsburgh's Carl Munnerlyn and gave Brockport a solid four-point lead. A missed jumper by Tangney before the buzzer sealed the win for the Eagles.

Daniyan was not the only one to provide Plattsburgh with a solid showing on the court, Steve Thomas also contributed a double-double, consisting of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Munnerlyn added 22 points to the Cardinals' total and Chris Ruiz posted 17 points on the scoreboard.

For Brockport, Brandon Williams led the way with 21 points, followed by Gerald Williams with 19 and Johnson with 16. Johnson also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for the Eagles.

Plattsburgh wraps up its weekend SUNYAC roadtrip tomorrow at Geneseo. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
