POTSDAM, N.Y. - The visiting Plattsburgh State men's soccer team broke a 1-1 tie in the second half on a go-ahead goal by Anis Makaren and Matt Hamilton added an insurance tally to defeat Clarkson, 3-1, in non-conference action on Wednesday. The Cardinals improve to 2-1-1 while snapping the Golden Knights three-game win streak to drop them 3-1.
Clarkson took a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes of the contest as Nate Hazen shot a direct free kick from approximately 35 yards out and placed it neatly in the top-left corner of the goal over the hands of Plattsburgh goalie Andy Heighington. It was the first goal for the Knights against Plattsburgh since 2002, a span of 536 minutes and 49 seconds.
Hamilton tied it at 1-all when he took a crossing pass from Chris Taylor and headed the ball into the back of the net, starting his first career multi-goal game. The teams went into the locker room tied 1-1.
Plattsburgh finished with a 15-10 edge in shots and a 5-4 lead in corner kicks. Heighington had four saves in the win while Saverino Spagnolo made three saves for Clarkson.
