ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State volleyball team dropped a pair of three-set sweeps to conclude the first round of State University of New York Athletic Conference East Division pool play on Saturday held on the campus of Oneonta State. The Cardinals are now 7-11 overall and 0-4 in the SUNYAC.
Plattsburgh fell 25-8, 25-14, 25-12 at the hands of Cortland. Theresa Lilly was the only Cardinal with multiple kills (3) as the team struggled offensively by making more hitting errors (15) than kills (7). Chelsea Varin and Susan Bodkin contributed six digs apiece. Plattsburgh also didn't help its cause in the serve-receive game, committing 16 reception errors.
The host Red Dragons pinned a 25-22, 25-19, 25-17 loss on the Cardinals in the nightcap. Kristin Saheim pounded 11 kills on 23 attempts and no errors for a sparkling .478 attack percentage to pace an improved Plattsburgh offense. Kaitlyn Bakker and Abby Mell each added five kills and Lilly had four.
Bodkin posted 23 assists and 11 digs to lead the team in both categories.
