GENESEO, N.Y. - Chris Taylor continued his hot streak on Saturday afternoon by scoring on a direct free kick with 6 minutes and 33 seconds left in the second overtime, lifting visiting Plattsburgh State to a 1-0 sudden-victory over Geneseo in State University of New York Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The Cardinals are 7-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC after extending a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1). The Blue Knights, meanwhile, fall to 4-3-1, including 1-1 in the conference.
Taylor scored his fourth goal of the season from 35 yards out and through traffic. The current SUNYAC and ECAC Upstate Player of the Week has four goals and four assists for 12 points in his last four outings.
Freshman goalkeeper Andy Heighington made a career-high five saves to earn his seventh win and second shutout of the season. His counterpart Mike Madarasz had two stops.
Geneseo outshot Plattsburgh by a 2-to-1 ratio, 12-6 for the game. But the Cardinals had the only two shots--both on goal--in the overtime sessions.
