PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals on Saturday to surge past visiting Skidmore 3-2 at the Field House Soccer Complex. Plattsburgh improves to 5-1-1 overall while Skidmore evens its record to 3-3.
The Thoroughbreds jumped out to an early two goal lead on tallies by Taylor Alderson in the 11th minute and a Doug Yeates' penalty kick in the 16th.
Freshman forward Matt Hamilton started the Cardinal comeback in the 35th minute, receiving a pass from Chris Taylor and striking one past goalkeeper Nick Peterson.
Plattsburgh came out in the second half with great intensity scoring in the 66th minute, when senior Mike Pinamonti crossed a ball over to Taylor who buried one in the back of the net from the right side. Three minutes later, he tacked on his second goal, a game winner, of the night by blasting the ball from 25 yards outside the box into the right lower corner.
Despite falling behind early, Plattsburgh ended up outshooting its opponent 15 to 4 and took 10 more corner kicks for the game. Freshman goalie Andy Heighington picked up a team-high fifth win on the season.
The Cardinals will try to add to a four-game winning streak next Friday when they travel to Brockport to begin State University of New York Athletic Conference play.
