ONEONTA, N.Y. - Both Errol Daniyan and Steve Thomas posted 20 points on the board for the Plattsburgh State men's basketball team, helping the Cardinals defeat host and State University of New York Athletic Conference foe Oneonta, 60-58. Chris Ruiz joined his teammates in double-digit scoring with 13.
Plattsburgh improves to 7-1 on the season, 2-0 in the SUNYAC, while Oneonta drops to 4-1 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
Daniyan and Thomas also combined for a team-high six rebounds each and Ketema Brooks made five assists for Plattsburgh.
Michael Grimes and Brian Beckford tossed up 12 points each to lead the Red Dragons, followed by Troy Talbot with 11. Beckford also recorded a double-double for the team with 10 boards. Kevin Walsh led the team with 11 rebounds and four assists.
Emerging after half-time trailing 25-27, the Cardinals staged a comeback and pulled ahead 37-36 just over five minutes into the second half. After a bit of back and forth, the Red Dragons took a commanding nine point lead (55-46) at the 3:44 mark, but, once again, the Cardinals pushed back and won the game with a jumper made by Steve Thomas with just two seconds to go.
Plattsburgh takes off for winter break next week, not returning to action until January 5 at Middlebury. Tip-off for that game is set for 7:30 p.m.
