POTSDAM, N.Y. - After jumping out to a quick 14-point lead during the first eight minutes of the game, the Plattsburgh State men's basketball team easily rolled past the Clarkson Golden Knights, winning 85-75.
The Cardinals now stand at 4-1 for the season, while Clarkson drops to 3-1.
Plattsburgh entered the half with a strong 51-26 lead and, despite cooling off a bit in the second, held on tight for the win. The Golden Knights fought hard in the second and actually outscored the Cardinals 49-34, but never pulled within less than eight of the dominating Cardinal cagers.
Steve Thomas led Plattsburgh's offense with a game-high 21 points, followed by Errol Daniyan with 19 and Carl Munnerlyn with 18. Daniyan and Munnerlyn also posted a team-high six rebounds, apiece. Adding to a solid performance, Munnerlyn nabbed a game-high six steals, as well.
For Clarkson, Rey Jefferson led the squad with 19 points and Felix Llanos added 16 to the effort. Jonathan Hood pulled down a team-high eight boards and Brandon Linton dished out seven assists.
Next up, Plattsburgh takes on St. Lawrence at home on December 1 at 8 p.m.
