NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team scored one goal in each period to defeat Middlebury College, 3-1, on Friday to advance to the finals of the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout Tournament held in Kreitzberg Arena on the Norwich University campus. The No. 3-ranked Cardinals improve to 7-1 on the season, and will play the Wisconsin-Stout/Norwich winner. The No. 9-ranked Panthers won't be able to defend their 2008 tournament title and fall to 1-1-1. BOXSCORE
With the score knotted at 1-1, Dan Sliasis scored a power play goal late in the second period to put Plattsburgh ahead for good, 2-1. Patrick Jobb added an insurance goal with 7 minutes and 44 seconds gone in the third period. Both Sliasis and Jobb have four goals on the year.
Middlebury's Chris Steele made it 1-0 just 1:39 into the game with the Panthers on the power play, his first goal of the season. Eric Satim, the reigning State University of New York Athletic Conference Player of the Week, tied it later in the first period with his team-leading sixth goal.
Josh Leis made 19 saves in the Plattsburgh net while John Yanchek stopped 17 shots for Middlebury. The teams were even in shots on goal, 20-20.
The Panthers had a goal disallowed in the second period because the officials deemed the puck went into the goal via a high stick, nullifying a possible 2-1 lead for Middlebury.
