PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team began the 2009-10 campaign this weekend with an Eastern College Athletic Conference West Division road sweep with Chatham College by identical 4-1 scores. On Saturday evening, the No. 4 nationally-ranked Cardinals scored three goals in the final period to break a 1-1 tie. Stephanie Moberg, Megan DiJulio and Kristen Bond all found the back of the net in the opening 7 minutes and 13 seconds of the third period, capping a string of four unanswered goals for the Cardinals. DiJulio ended up with two goals in the game.
Dawson Bancroft-Short put Chatham up 1-0 at 3:17 of the first period, with Sara Forbes getting the assist.
Mandy Mackrell had 14 saves for Plattsburgh while Brenn Scott kept the Cougars close with 56 stops.
On Sunday afternoon, Plattsburgh was led by two-point efforts from Moberg, Erika Shaubel and Brittany Meade.
Steph Moon scored a short-handed goal and Laurie Bowler added another on the power play to give the Cardinals a 2-0 first-period lead and all the offense they would need.
Leah McNaughton fed Lauren Campbell for a power play goal as Chatham cut the deficit to 3-1 at the 5:36 mark of the third period, but Jordan Caldwell scored her first collegiate goal--on the power play--2:14 later to restore the Cardinals' three-goal cushion.
Anne Loewen was victorious in the Plattsburgh net with 14 saves, and Scott compiled 47.
