Balanced Offense Leads Cardinals Past Golden Eagles

Goals Come from Four Different Players

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Plattsburgh State received balanced scoring as four different Cardinals earned their first goals of the season in a 4-1 victory Saturday against visiting College at Brockport in State University of New York Athletic Conference men's hockey action before 1,763 at the Stafford Ice Arena. The top-ranked Cardinals extended their SUNYAC unbeaten streak to 18 games in a row (17-0-1) dating to the 2007-08 campaign, improving 2-0 overall and in SUNYAC. The Golden Eagles drop to 0-2 overall and in the conference. BOXSCORE

After the teams battled to a scoreless first period despite Plattsburgh outshooting Brockport 16-7, Phil Farrow put the Cardinals on the scoreboard 1 minute and 11 seconds gone in the second with a power play goal. The Golden Eagles got a power play goal of their own at the 15:19 mark as former Cardinal Jason Gorrie scored his first of the year on assists by Ryan Silveira and Chris Berardini.

The Cardinals put the game away in the third period with three goals by freshmen Matt Bessing at 5:47, Patrick Jobb at 12:34 and junior Kyle VanderMale at 16:34. Jobb assisted on Bessing's first career collegiate tally and defensemen Tom Breslin assisted on the last two goals.
