PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Felipe Cavalcanti scored two goals, including the game winner with 2 minutes and 13 seconds left in double overtime, to lift the Oswego men's soccer team to a 2-1 sudden-victory Friday over host Plattsburgh State in State University of New York Athletic Conference play at the Cardinals Field House Complex. The Lakers improve to 2-6 on the year, including 1-1 in the SUNYAC. The Cardinals (7-2-1, 2-1) saw their seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end.
Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Plattsburgh got the equalizer in the 70th minute when Matt Hamilton converted a Greg Wiley pass for his fifth goal of the season.
Oswego made good on its only shot of the first half in the 13th minute when German Collazo crossed a ball into the box where Cavalcanti headed home his first goal of the game.
It was a frustrating loss--only their fourth in the last 57 home games since 2004--for the Cardinals, who dominated territorial play, shots (16-3) and corner kicks (9-0). Plattsburgh also tried to sneak past the Oswego back line, but was whistled for four offsides calls.
Plattsburgh had a chance to win the game in the opening minutes of the second overtime as Brandon Levine and Pat Shaughnessy had solid looks at the goal, but Matt Wopperer made back-to-back saves. The Oswego goalkeeper ended up with six saves.
Plattsburgh's Andy Heighington (1 save) came off his line to try to clear away a deflected ball that Cavalcanti chased down and he beat the goalkeeper before kicking it into an empty net.
