Randi (Johnson) Bennett helped put the Cardinals on the map as one of the pioneers of the Plattsburgh State softball program.
A three-time First-Team All-Region selection, Randi aided in Plattsburgh State’s three SUNYAC Tournament appearances during her career, and in 2002, the Cardinals qualified for the ECAC Upstate Tournament while posting a 31-15 overall record.
The Saugerties, N.Y., native was also a two-time All-SUNYAC selection and earned a spot on the All-ECAC Upstate Second Team in 2002. Randi, the 2002-03 Plattsburgh State Female Senior Achievement Award winner, currently holds the program’s career record in both triples (19) and stolen bases (98). She also ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in at-bats (tied for second, 484), total bases (fourth, 243), slugging percentage (fifth, .502), runs (tied for fifth, 109), hits (seventh, 158) and batting average (eighth, .326).
Date of Induction into Cardinal Sports Hall of Fame:
October 18, 2019
Where is she now:
Randi is currently a special education teacher at South Glens Falls High School. She works with a lot of levels most mostly works with ninth grade Global Studies.
She currently lives in Lake Luzerne, N.Y., with her husband, Gregory, and their children, Brayden (10) and Fallyn (7). Brayden plays football, hockey and baseball, while Fallyn plays softball and hockey.
Randi lists her greatest accomplishment as being a mother to two beautiful, healthy children who fill her life with joy. In Randi’s words: “They teach us patience (sometimes), unconditional love and how to go hard after their dreams. We, as parents, are their No. 1 fans.” In her professional life, she says that “having the patience, organization, adaptability and intuitive skills would be an accomplishment in itself.” She strives to be an inspirational and encouraging role model for her students. While she says that her job can certainly be challenging day to day, making at least one student smile and helping him/her achieve a goal is an achievement and a good day.
Favorite Plattsburgh State Sports Moment:
”There so many favorite Plattsburgh softball moments, but if I can narrow it down to one season it would be the 2002 year. We had a lot of ‘firsts.’ Our team’s first 30-win season; we beat top-25 teams (Tufts, Williams, Cortland to name a few); the program’s first postseason SUNYAC win and two back-to-back homeruns. Aside from the 2002 season, I was pleased with 98 stolen bases throughout my career. I would have to say being on any collegiate team is a special moment, and the bonds that are formed are lifelong memories.”
