John played basketball for two seasons. In the 1953-54 season, he averaged 20.9 points in 18 games while pulling in 129 rebounds, best for fourth all-time at the time of John’s induction.
As a two-year Cardinal, he scored more than 600 points which averages to 17 points per contest. While an individual success, John and his teammates posted a 31-6 record from 1953-1955. After graduation, John became an educator and an administrator while continuing to support his alma mater.
