One of the key players on the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team that made a run to the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2005, Jason Sousa finished his career as one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history.
Jason became the program’s first-ever three-time All-American, which included First-Team All-America honors in 2005. Also regarded as one of the top players in the region throughout his career, he earned three First-Team All-Region accolades and three First-Team All-SUNYAC honors in addition to being named the SUNYAC Player of the Year in 2005.
Along with his senior season culminating in a trip to the national semifinals, the Brampton, Ontario, native helped Plattsburgh State win its sixth SUNYAC title in program history in 2005.
Date of Induction into Cardinal Sports Hall of Fame:
October 18, 2019
Where is he now:
Jason co-founded Canada Beach Sports, the first multi-sport sand facility in Canada, with his brother. The facility runs several different activities, including beach soccer, beach volleyball, beach flag football, kids’ summer camps and special events.
He is married to his wife, Tina, and they have three children: Tiaga (4), Leandro (3) and Iliana (1). They currently reside in Brampton, Ontario.
In business, Jason cites the media exposure created by Canada Beach Sports as his greatest professional accomplishment. Canada Beach Sports has been featured on local television for having one of the most unique and fun summer camps in the Toronto area. The company was also recently featured in an international soccer magazine for being pioneers in bringing beach soccer to Canada. His greatest personal accomplishment, meanwhile, is being a “family man” and, more importantly, being able to make his children laugh every single day.
Favorite Plattsburgh State Sports Moment:
“There isn’t a single sports memory that stands out for me during my time at Plattsburgh. Rather, what I cherish most during my playing time there was the whole journey to the final four during my senior year. That includes all the practices, all the travel, all the obstacles and ultimately, all the team achievements that came with it.”
