Plattsburgh State Athletics

Professor Emerita of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, Dr. Alice Backus served as a Plattsburgh faculty member from 1938 to 1970. During that time, she taught in the classroom, coached, founded and coordinated women’s sports programs at the school. Women’s’ swimming and diving had a 37-year history at the school beginning in 1967 and women’s tennis began competition in 1970.
