Panek was a standout member of the Cardinals men’s ice hockey program from 1985-88.
 
During his time as a Cardinal, he earned numerous accolades, including First Team All-American honors in 1988.  Chris was named the Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Division III Championship in 1987. In 1986, he was named to the NCAA Division III All-Tournament Team.
 
Panek received First-Team All-SUNYAC accolades three times and ECAC West First-team honors twice. The Cardinal All-Decade Team member (1985-1994) finished his three-year career with 133 points, good for third most by a defensemen and 29th all-time.
 
He was drafted in the 1987 NHL Supplemental Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. Following his career at Plattsburgh, he played three years of professional hockey.
 
Panek took his talents to the coaching ranks, serving as the head coach of the high school program at Bishop Timon-Saint Jude for six years. He has a 101-40-22 record as a head coach, which includes winning one state championship.

Where is he now:

Panek is a supervisor for Wegman’s Supermarkets. He has a 14-year-old son, Cooper, and resides in Buffalo, N.Y.
 
He is also an assistant coach with the Buffalo Junior Sabres of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

“My favorite Plattsburgh sports moment was winning the National Championship in 1987.”
