Rugar Woods

Winding between the Field House and Saranac River, Rugar Woods is home to the Cardinal cross country teams. It is also enjoyed by local residents who can traverse 10 miles of trails by biking, running or walking. Soft-surface running is prevalent, helping to prevent running injuries.

Plattsburgh State is fortunate to have a true cross country course for 5-, 6- and 8-kilometer races hosted on campus. Rugar Woods was the site of the 2005 and 2015 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Cross Country Championships.

In addition, there are many state parks with hundreds of miles of trails within close driving distance of campus.
