Field House
Public Skating Schedule
Located near the College and Plattsburgh High campuses just off Rugar Street between Tremblay and College avenues, the Plattsburgh State Field House opened its doors in 1972 when it served as host of the World University Games for the first event ever held in the building. In 1976, the Field House was the training site of the U.S. Olympic teams before they went north to the Montreal Summer Games for competition, and President Gerald Ford was a distinguished guest during the athletes' visit.
Today, the Field House is home to varsity team rooms for softball, baseball, hockey, soccer, cross country/track and lacrosse; administrative and coaches' offices; a basketball court and indoor track. A modern sports medicine area for the evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries is located within the facility, which also has ample storage space. At 35,600 square yards of floor surface, the Field House is also used by Cardinal baseball, softball, lacrosse and track teams for practice during inclement weather. The lobby contains a concessions area, vending machines and trophy cases.
The 1,924-seat Stafford Ice Arena, home of the NCAA champion Cardinal hockey teams, is contained within the Field House. The walls are adorned with conference and national championship banners, All-America plaques and other team history.
The facility is also a popular community venue for the Plattsburgh Spring Show and the annual Fall Arts and Crafts Fair featuring regional vendors and sectional/regional high school basketball tournaments in February. In addition, the College's commencement ceremonies are held here.
