CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior forward
Cam Owens (Wilmington, Mass./Islanders Hockey Club) of Plattsburgh State has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week for the period ending Nov. 26, 2017, as announced Monday by the conference office.
This marks Owens' first-ever SUNYAC Athlete of the Week honor.
Owens' offensive production helped Plattsburgh State win its sixth PrimeLink Great Northern ShootOut championship over the weekend at Middlebury College, as the junior forward tallied two goals and four assists for six points to earn Tournament MVP honors. Owens scored a goal and added two assists on Friday, leading the charge in the Cardinals' 4-1 victory over defending NCAA Division III national champion and nationally-ranked No. 6/7 Norwich University. He followed that performance up with the same stat line on Saturday, scoring once and chipping in two assists in Plattsburgh State's 4-2 triumph over Lawrence University in the championship game.
Owens leads the team in scoring (13 points) and ranks second in the SUNYAC in assists (11).
Plattsburgh State (4-4-0, 2-3-0 SUNYAC) returns to SUNYAC play on Friday, Dec. 1, when it visits Buffalo State for a 7 p.m. contest.
